Close to Milan's city centre, looking up, one can notice the presence of
an outstanding profile: it is the outline of Torre Velasca, whose
symbolic value one is able to guess from a distance. The building was
designed in the 1950s by a group of Milanese architects called BBPR. I've been told by local people this building was named the ugliest building in Europe - I do not agree! The building expresses the 1950's modern tendencies but still hangs on to the gothic elements that is expressed in nearby churches and bell towers. The tower, with its
characteristic 'mushroom' shape and height of almost 100 metres, sticks out into
the city centre skyline and matches the buildings, domes and towers of Milan.
