Garbaldi - The New Fashion District of Milan
























Milan is one of the major fashion cities of Europe and it's time for change. Therefore os the area Garbaldi going through a huge modernization, with new architecture, squares, streets, and other urban spaces.
A bearing concrete core wrapped in glass is the constructive principle of these buildings which allow a free facade. Same techniques is used in other tall glass buildings. Because of the hot Italian sun, some of the buildings have outer lamellae that secure shadow inside the buildings.

These buildings are very different from their surroundings. And I think it's a shame that these new buildings don't embrace any of the gorgeous Italian architecture that's surrounding them. They could, might as well, be placed in New York or in any other major city. If this drastic difference between the buildings and it's context is on purpose, is hard to tell, but in any case it's only a matter of the viewer
